Description
Tina Hartt sings with a sensuality that mirrors emotions we can no longer verbally express. With one song, she will stir up desires long forgotten. Borrowing liberally from vintage Parisian chansons and jazz standards, her arrangements are ignited by eclectic gypsy jazz instrumentation and driving Cuban rhythms.
She is a classically trained multilingual singer with a CEGEP Diploma in Music majoring on Baritone Saxophone and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music majoring in Voice. Her introduction to music and performing began at a young age, she started on bari in grade 6 yet had already been involved in theatre with the Hudson’s Players Club since the age of 8. She has an extensive vocal range with excellent technique that allows her to adapt easily to different styles. Over the years, Tina has enjoyed singing in several different groups, from intimate jazz duos to an 18 piece Big Band, from huge choirs to solo arias, from rock to reggae – yet invariably, always comes back to jazz. One of Tina’s strengths as a performer is her ability to improvise.
“What I cherish most about jazz is the freedom of improvisation. When I solo, I imagine blowing my old horn, and singing the way I would have played over those same chord changes.” T.Hartt In Toronto, she co-produced her debut album “You Don’t Know Me” alongside Murray Reid featuring original and cover material. She has played extensively in clubs in Toronto, Montreal and Halifax.
Since moving to Calgary, Tina has enjoyed a six months standing gig at Betty Lou’s Library, frequent appearances at the Blackfoot Hotel, the Vin Room West, Gravity Expresso & Wine Bar and Alvin’s Jazz Club. In 2020 Tina was one of the featured artists selected to perform in the YYC International Jazz Days Festival. Currently she is working on her second album for release by the end of 2021.
