Morag Northey
Morag Northey expresses her belief in the infinitely healing power of Love & Compassion through music, story, cello and song. She invites you to Journey with her on this Winter Solace concert she calls “I Am”
Morag is a classically trained Solo, Chamber, Orchestral and Theatrical Performer and Teacher. She attended classical and experimental sessions at the Banff Centre and the Sunset Theatre Artist Exploration Series from 2008-2017, creating compositions: ’Poetry on the Wall,’ ‘Run the Wind,’ ‘Whispers,’ and ‘17~Emptiness Turns inside out’ a dramatic story with inseparable connection between cello, voice, words and worlds.
Morag played a three year series of solo concerts ‘Together Calgary’ in St. Mary’s Cathedral, offering sound therapy through meditation, improvised cello and voice.
She created and performed a year of monthly concerts & talks via Full Moon Walks in Fish Creek Park, encouraging reconnection with Self through Nature, Bow Valley Ranche.
In 2014 Morag walked the 720 kilometre Camino de Santiago pilgrimage carrying her cello, playing and singing along The Way.
She has a debut album ‘This is the Life,’ singer, song-writer, cellist 2009 and collaborated as composer, cellist, singer and co-producer on ‘Lilies of the Field’ with Kristoph Franz, nominated for “Outstanding Inspirational Album of the Year” Gospel Music Association of Canada 2007 Awards.
Morag was awarded the Calgary 2015 Betty Mitchell Award for “Outstanding Theatrical Composition” ‘Butcher’ Alberta Theatre Projects, performed at the 2010 Olympics, played for the Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean, and performed her show ‘Unstoppable Love.’
In 2015 Morag played and sang the Opening Blessing of the Canada Winter Games in collaboration with a Lheidli T’enneh, First Nation Elder and a Drummer.
She has recently been part of Nicole Tritter’s ‘Among the Trees 2020” collaborating with Dancers and sharing her composition “Whispers”inspired by Nature.
