Lorna MacLachlan has been writing, arranging, and performing her own music for over 3 decades. “I’ve always written, it is my instrument”, explains the composer. She pursued composition and studied at the University of Calgary with Gregory Levin, Marilyn Engel and Allen Bell, to name a few but in her last year of her graduate degree she became very interested in combining the structure of “Art music and Electronic music” with the freedom of improvisation. Since then Lorna has continued to study art music and write in a style that is a blend of folk, classical and Jazz. her mentors and teachers include and Maria Schneider, Don Thompson and David Braid to name a few. More recently she has been focusing on great female composers such as: Christine Jensen and Carla Bley.
Tonight’s trio will feature Lorna on piano, Johnny Summers on trumpet/flugelhorn and Richard Harding on saxophones. Together they create a unique and energetic sound with original rhythms, melodies, and improvisations. The music is a culmination of new and traditional, instrumental and vocal, classical and jazz and all that has influenced these players. It is a celebration of the human spirit; the questions, the pains and the joyous journey we are on together and alone.
We hope you will join us for an evening of music making and celebration.
