Create Kids Fest is collaborating with The Asylum for Art to present a monthly event called “Not for Kids Only!” Each month, a local or touring children’s artist hits the stage to entertain kids and their families. Each event also features a performer from YYC Princess. This November will feature Miranda Currie from Yellowknife, NWT and special guest, Cinderella!
Miranda Currie is a northern indigenous artist living and working in Sombe K’e, more widely known, as Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, among the Dene people. She walks in two worlds, with one foot in her Swampy Cree heritage and the other foot in her Euro-Canadian ancestry. Her company CuRiouS CoNNectionS creates northern indigenous content that is accessible to children and families. She is a multi-instrumentalist, author, educator and film maker that has travelled the world with performances throughout Canada and in Switzerland, Pusan and South Korea.
Currie’s debut album, “Up In the Air,” earned her a nomination for Aboriginal Singer-Songwriter of the year in 2015. Miranda continued to perform and sing in public and as culture and language teacher in schools. She saw how kids responded to music and how it helped them learn their indigenous languages. Miranda made the decision to create kid’s music with a northern indigenous flair, releasing Bouncing in the Boreal in 2018 and Tickling the Taiga in 2022.
