Come on down and listen to some great music and indulge in waffles, eggs Bennie and more!
Lorna MacLachlan has been writing, arranging, performing and teaching in and around the Calgary area for over 30 years. After completing a graduate degree in Composition and theory she embarked on a career as a composer providing award winning original music for Theatre, Dance and National media companies (CBC, Access Network) and a variety of commercial and artistic enterprises across the spectrum of music genres. She has recorded six full length albums of original music (the latest album “Bicycle Riding in the Dark” being nominated for best Jazz recording by YYC Music Awards) and has had support from FACTOR, the Alberta Foundation for the performing arts, Alberta Music and the Canada Council. She continues to work on commissioned pieces for various groups with much of her focus going toward writing for her quintet. Past commissions include compositions and performances for Sturgess Architecture, the City of Calgary for (The Water Centre, Alderman Barb Scott Park and more), Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, Springboard Dance, Theatre Calgary and Lunchbox Theatre – to name a few.
Lorna has always been passionate about music education and believes strongly in helping to develop the talents of the next generation. She has a teacher for the public and private school boards for over 25 years and has been recognized nationally for her dedication to excellence in music education. She continues to work in the schools as a guest conductor and clinician.
Recently, the quintet has been performing for communities around Calgary at outdoor venues and centres as much of the industry has been shut down but they are excited to be back (hopefully for a long time and a good time) and look forward to presenting new works that have come about during this period of isolation. Lorna MacLachlan will be singing and on piano, Richard Harding on Saxophones, Robin Tufts on drums, Andre Wickenheiser on trumpet and Jeremy Coates on bass.
