About Course
Kayra Caner was born in 1998 in Istanbul, Turkey. She started to play the piano at age 5. She also practiced guitar for 3 years and studied vocal for 5 years. In 2010, she participated in Pera International Piano Festival in Istanbul. In 2014, she was a guest as a young musician at “Açık Radyo” radio station. From 2007 to 2015, she completed the 7 grades of ABRSM piano performance examinations and grade 5 of ABRSM theory examination. In 2015, became a student of pianist Kadir Batu Ekmekçi and studied piano with him for 5 years. Since 2016, studying composition and sound design with Tolga Tüzün, Tolga Zafer Özdemir, Yiğit Özatalay, Oğuz Usman and Enis Gümüş at Istanbul Bilgi University. And also studied piano performance with pianist Deniz Kaya and completed Grade 8 piano performance exam of ABRSM. Additionally, participated the classes of music production and recording with Mine Erkaya, mix & mastering with Micheal Timothy Nielsen, songwriting with Başak Yavuz, jingle writing with Ömer Ahunbay, physics of sound with Ruhan Alpaydın and jazz composition with Selen Gülün at Bilgi University. With the original work “Revolve”, she got accepted for “Sesin Yolculuğu” Festival as a young composer in 2020. She got selected to work with ensemble Oerknal (Netherlands); two original pieces – “Around” and “Pont de la Concorde” – got performed and recorded by the ensemble. Moreover, “Pont de la Concorde” got selected to be a part of “Bilgi New Music Festival 12”. She completed her Bachelor’s in music composition and sound engineering at Istanbul Bilgi University in 2021 and currently, she is a graduate composition student and a graduate teaching assistant at University of Calgary.
